Primary

So  I thought Primary was going to be a piece of cake.  I would be a great teacher, they would be great students and would learn and love the gospel more because of me and what a great teacher I am.

Hmmm I have a lot to learn

Sister Johnson- Today we are going to talk about Abinadi, does anyone know who he was?

student- I have candy...who wants candy?

students- me, me, can I have a piece?

Sis J.  Ok...Let's put the candy away.  I have some things in a bag that represent Abinadi's life
and I want you to each take one and then look up the scripture that goes with it.

STUDENT FARTS

students- Ewww gross A farted.  You are stinky.

Sis J.-  If you can hear me touch your nose.  If you can hear me close your mouth and look at me.

student-  I can't hear you!  I can't hear you!  Ha Ha Ha

I finally get to hand out the things I had in the bag.  They each are looking up their scriptures.

student a- Where is Mosiah?

student b- I can't find it

student c- I can't find it either

Help students find scriptures and realize I need page numbers for next time.

While some students are following along in scriptures and doing what they are supposed to, one girl is sprawled in the middle of the floor, searching through candy girls' purse.

I then end the lesson with a dramatic tape of Abinadi's testimony to King Noah.  I really thought they would like it.

1/2 through 3 min tape

student-  I really hope Abinadi will stop talking because I am getting really bored.

To end the lesson I did ask some questions and they all agreed to be more like him and stand up for what is right.

Ohhh 9 year olds!  I have a lot to learn.

Hands up for Mrs. Johnson

Our school finished CSAP today, which is the Colorado State Tests.  It is gruelling, nothing like the bubble tests that I had to take as a kid.  They have test books where they write their answers. They have to take 3 math tests and 6 Reading and Writing tests.  It is long and it is boring.  I only had to test one student this year and he was precious.  He is a special needs boy and he has problems with writing.  I think he may have a form of Cerebral Palsy.  I was his scribe, which means that when he didn't want to write, I would write for him.  The past 4 years I tested English Language Learners, which means I read the whole test aloud, so it was a nice change.  I am thankful it is over though!  Only two more weeks until Spring Break!

Another cute thing that happened today was in my last class of the day, which is one of my favorite 7th grade CFS classes.  It is mostly boys but they are the coolest boys ever.  There are a couple of sons of pig farmers in the class and they are the most respectful and will try anything kids.  I want my son to work on a farm and have the same personality as these boys.
So they are working on their sewing projects and I had some leftover pretzels, cheerios, and gold fish crackers from a previous class and I decided I would share with them.  They were so excited and grateful.  They were really really sweet.  One girl, who is very loud yelled out to the class,
"Raise your hand if you think Mrs. Johnson is going to be a great Mom!"

All the kids raised their hands! And all I did was give Goldfish crackers!   They just made my day!  I hope that my home can be a home where kids will always feel welcome and want to be.  I guess the secret is the snack that smiles back at you!

One more thing to share!  Jeremy and I received new callings at church.  I am going to be the 9 year old Primary Teacher and Jeremy is working with the Teachers doing scouting activities.  We are going to miss nursery a lot but I am excited to be a part of the Primary.  It has been 18 years since I was last in Primary.  I am ready for a good Sharing Time.

Life is Great!

Baby Shower

On Wednesday, Erie Middle School had a baby shower for myself and another teacher that is expecting in April. I was very impressed with how kind the people at the school are. This is my first year working there and I don't know very many people on a very personal level but I received lots and lots of presents. I really would have been happy with some onsies and a bottle. So their genorosity touched me very deeply.

The art teacher is hilarious! He made a baby poster instruction sheet and I thought I would include some of the instructions. There were over 30 of them!

Fire Pit

So today was a beautiful day here in Colorado, and Jeremy and I really had Spring Fever.  We were going to go up to the mountains and do some snow shoeing but we decided to stay home and clean instead.
We got a jump start on spring cleaning and it feels good.  Jeremy cleaned out the garage and washed his work van and my car.  We cleaned out all the Garbage cans around the house so they smell nice and 409eee.  (I did that).
Jeremy then decided it was time to dig the fire pit.  Yes ladies and gentlemen if you ever come and visit the Johnson house we will be excited to take you out back so we can roast something and talk around the fire.
It really was a great day.  I also included a picture of the card Jeremy created for Dylan and a picture of Jeremy's dog that will also be in the backyard with the Fire Pit.
Don't worry, Jeremy is building him a nice little area of his own.
